I have never had an experience of being an expat. The longest period I had spent out of home was three weeks in Spain. It happened 2 years ago. We rented a small cottage near the sea through the travel agency in Moscow. Usually I do not be absent at home so long time because my children are too small, but at that case we decided to travel with kids together, so my journey was limited only by the time of my vacations.
Actually I like Spain very much, so I had not another plan how to spend my vacations. We had a really good time! We did nothing just laying all the days near a swim-pool and eating paella by evenings. I did not miss anything from home because all I need is to have my children near me. Actually I do not miss places or things, just the people who mean a lot to me. So although I had been living in Spain for some time I cannot say in fact that I could feel what it means to be an expat.
If you asked me about emigration, so I would admit that I would like to have this sort of experience. You see I like travelling a lot, I adore visiting new countries and meeting many people. During all my journeys to abroad I always try to understand how people live in these places. It means that I do some ordinary citizens things as if I would not be staying in this city just for a week. I go for shopping to supermarkets, I have a dinner in restaurants which have not a menu in Russian and even in English; so I try to be in places which are not meaning for foreigners.
I have two ex-school friends, who have been living in other countries. One of my schoolmates got married with Englishman six years ago, and now she lives with her husband in Stockholm. Another one went to study German to Munich four years ago. During the studies she got a job and it was the most important reason for her to stay there. Both of them did not renounce citizenship because they have many relatives in Russia and they do not want to have any problem with visiting them.
I think the most important thing for expats is getting a job. It is easier to leave your country for a long time if you have already concluded the job contract. When I think of my probable emigration, all my romantic dreams of “better life” break up on necessity of earning money. It seems to me an ordinary employer does not prefer to hire a foreigner if he has another candidate to the vacancy. I have heard that in many cases employers pay less salary to expat than to national for the same job. Of course I do not mean occasions when another culture of expat (g.e. his native language) is the main advantage for getting a job.
If some day I wanted to leave Russia I would choose some small town in the centre of Europe. Actually I do not like big cities with their buildings which look like pencils being stuck in the ground. I would live in a small cottage in the small town near the capital, with the garden and good neighbours. Every Sunday I would go to the capital for shopping and walking. Some time ago I had been thinking of buying a flat in Europe, but after weighting all “yes” and “no” I refused of this idea. It does not make any sense to do it if you are not going to visit regularly your European real estate.
But still I do not lose the hope to realize my intention one fine day.

- вводное слово, запятая после

we did nothing, just laid... что-то тут с согласованием, в общем...

- вводная конструкция при although, запятая после time. и после So я ыб тоже поставила

непонятно, зачем здесь so
