The rescue of Mr. Toad
читать дальшеOnce upon a time, at the beginning of the summer, Mr. Badger paid an official call on the Rat and the Mole. Animals were surprised as he had never paid official calls at all; actually it was a serious undertaking to catch him anywhere even in his house in the middle of the wood. It turned out that he came to accomplish the work of rescue of Mr. Toad; Mr. Badger learned from a trustworthy source that Mr. Toad was going to get a new powerful car at that moment and Badger was sure that his friend would disregard all their warnings which had been given before. He was right that Toad was going to try the new car, but friends stopped him. Mr. Badger had a long conversation with him the purpose of which was to explain Toad his misguided conduct. Mr. Toad became an affectionate fellow at first and recognized he had behaved in a wrong way, but shortly after that he turned into a backsliding animal and started enjoying his past adventures. Then Mr. Badger became angry and animals decided to live at Toad’s place till he would yield to their persuasion. Ratty and Molly locked Mr. Toad in his bedroom in spite of shouting abuse at them and they didn’t leave him unguarded. But one day The Mole and the Badger went to walk and the Rat stayed with the Toad alone. Mr. Toad was cunning As Mr. Toad was cunning, he pretended to be ill and crestfallen and asked to call a doctor. The Rat The rat was really gullible, and therefore believed, leaving him alone for some time. It was enough for Mr. Toad to run away from the house.
