читать дальшеThere are books which I uniquely like, the others I don’t like, but there are infrequent samples which give mixed feelings. The novel by R.Kipling under the title “The light that failed” got to the last category. I have remember that first of all I decided that it a kind of a serene novel, but after the second chapter I realised that I had made a mistake. The description of war showed me the real colour of this novel. During the reading my impressions chaned many times. Some chapters were long and boring, the other were exciting and fascinating.
I just got used to have a meeting with Dick, Torpenhow, Maisie and otrer characters every week and when I closed the book then realised I was missing them. Each of them became resemble my good aquaintance. I didn’t approved Maisie’s behavior, I was really sad about Dick’s, I was interested in the Torp’s advantures in the deset. I’m still remember all my emotions and I’m missing even Bessie and a red-haired girl whose name we don’t know or I just don’t remember it.
Frankly speaking I can’t say that I have any favorite character in this novel, maybe because the characters are not divided into positive and negative, but I’m not sure that it’s the reason. I consider that the main personages are showed in the development, even just the first meeting with Dick and Maisie was when they were little children and lived at the Mrs.Janett’s place and the last scene about the people in the prime of the life.
Even in the long chapters when we had to try to understand a long conversations between Dich, Tprp and Nilghai I was constantly waiting the new absorbing turns.
What concerns the style of the novel I think it’s rather good, especially in the second part of the book. Most of all I liked the little poem at the beginning of each chapter; they seemed to tell us about the idea of the chapter. In general it was a habit to begin my week end reading ‘The light that failed’. Sometimes it was awful, because it took a lot of time, I wanted to go for a walk, but I. For example, didn’t understand a part of the chapter and I had to read it again., but nevertheless it was a pleasant habit.
In the conclusion I would like to say a few words about the plot and about the final part of the novel. I was sorry about Dick, but I’m sure that it is the best ending of this book., I can’t imagine any other ending in the novel which was called ‘The light that failed’. I like that trehe was no a lot of detailes of Dick’s death and Torp’s feelings, because it allowed me to have my own emotions and ideas.
